Piccolos have very fine mechanisms that require absolutely accurate assembly, and thorough checking before being sent out. Any adjustments, even small ones, will require an experienced professional. This piccolo had a good head joint, a very nice case, and played reasonably EXCEPT the pad for F# would not close completely for either fingering, so the note was dead. Under the loupe, the keywork looked a little uneven overall, with some stains on the pads, and a few very small casting voids. If this were a student or intermediate full-sized flute, I could have fixed the problem in two minutes with a miniature screwdriver; piccolos do not have adjustment screws, the mechanism is too small. A professional fix would be costly. With a little more care, this would have been an acceptable practice instrument. The body looks more like ABS plastic than ebonite to me. There were no shipping wedges installed to secure the keys when it arrived, which I would normally expect in a new instrument. Was this a repackaged second? I have returned the instrument.
