Freud-Diablo 99-760 New Premier Adjustable Rail and Stile Router Bit System

Imagine two router bits that create any door in 5/8-Inch to 1-1/4-Inch door thickness range, create "rattle free" flat panel doors, create any length long tenon construction and more. That's what Freud's new Premier Adjustable Rail & Stile router bit systems do. They work exactly like traditional rail and stile router bits to enhance door construction. Adjustable shims enable both a tight fit when using plywood panels and the ability to use thick panels ( from 5.5mm to 6.35mm ). The unique cutter geometry virtually eliminates tearout. Top portion of cutter, including bearing and spindle, is removed to produce the front of the long tenon profile for blind tenons, through tenons, or bridle joints. Bits feature Freud's Perma-Shield coating that reduces heat and pitch build up along with rust, and Freud's TiCo Hi-Density Carbide to maximize bit life and material finish. Optional cutters are available for double profile doors (99-860) and glass panel doors (54-760) with variable thicknesses and long tenons for perfecting matching profiles on all doors because it's the same set of router bits. This set produces a quarter round profile and all bits have 1/2-Inch shanks.

Great bit. The ability to adjust the panel grove is what I needed as I am using 1/4” mdf for the panel. Easy to set up especially if you have a set of dial calipers. You can cut a sample piece then measure the panel slot the bit cut. Then measure your panel thickness and add or remove shims accordingly.Bits were packed well and shipped quickly by the vendor.

I bought this set to make flat panel doors with this profile. Of course, no two flat panels are of predictable thickness. But no problem with these bits. They are supremely adjustable for thickness so the rail and stile grooves can be made the same width as the panel thickness and the rail-end tongues can be made to fit those grooves perfectly too. It takes some test cuts naturally, but that's part of the fun for a hobbyist like me. These Freud bits cut excellently besides the adjustability. My rails had arches so I had to run them free-hand (with starter pin, of course) against the bearing of the stile groove bit. Everything worked perfectly. They even come with tools to help take them apart for adjusting! Great!

They are actually adjustable for wood thickness and groove widths. However you must accept the figity process of adding or removing shims to get the surfaces to line up on the rail/stile joints.
