Only buy this type of tool. This is the only one that is ever guaranteed to not waste your time. It’s cheap, it does the job, and there is no need to look for a specific size fitting (like you would with a cap wrench tool). This is the thing you need to buy.

I had purchased a similar tool at a national auto parts store. It was ok, but didnt grab onto the outside of the oil filter canister well at all. These have better bite /grip for sure and have worked well on several engines. Having two sizes /lengths for this price (less than I paid locally for one) was a good value. The great grip comes with one downside - if your filter is really on tight, getting a super hard grip on it with these can deform the filter wrenching it off.

The metal on the pliers was middle of the spectrum. Not the cheapest nor the best quality. I have not tried to remove the oil filter as I just changed the oil on my Bad Boy zero turn mower. I believe it will do the job for me.
