Living almost off grid with no wifi, found this plug and play system was an excellent value for the money. Both the installation and set up was simple. Love the speak thru camera feature. The economical monitor works adequately, the only disappointing feature was the 66% view, so have ordered a second package to cover other areas. Overall based on the price, the features and hardware meet expectations.

So far so good , maybe 5 minutes to setup .( I had system in place before I gave moniter flying lessons) . Great picture on moniter , range seems good , my system between the moniter and camera about 50 ft 2 walls and exterior door, no problem with signal

After having a door handle of our SUV pried off and items stolen in the middle of the night while the truck was sitting in our lighted dirveway we decided we'd better get some sort of camera system. First tried a wireless type of camera that I got working with some difficulty on our smart phones but absolutely could not get it working on our desktop, frustrating customer service so sent it back. Found this Defender system and ordered it. It set up almost instantly. The motion detector alert works well, the picture both day and night is good. I have ordered a third camera. This system cannot be viewed on our smart phones, just via the 7" screen that comes with the system. Fine with us, we keep it in our bedroom to watch out for those nighttime vandals.......

Works well, controls are pretty user friendly. The resolution is quite poor. The camera is wireless in the sense that it connects to the monitor wirelessly but what the images seem to have removed is the power cable that comes out the back of the camera that needs an outlet. Based on the pictures and “wireless” description I assumed it was battery powered. It’s not.

Excellent camera setup... I've been running these for 2 yrs now with no real problemsA few tips*If your going to add 4 cameras to one monitor buy a RF Detector so you can pinpoint the best place in the house to keep the monitor or the cameras will loose signal every once in a whileAlso hang the camera under something to prevent the elements from getting at the cameraWhen recording if you pull the sd card right after you viewed something wait a minimum of 10 mins or the last file gets corrupted and you won't be able to review what happenedOn 2 cameras with a 128gb card recording all the time will get you about 2 weeks of recording then it will loop and rerecordedAnd finally if the power goes out you need to turn on the monitor manually as it doesn't automatically turn on when power returnsIn conclusion doesn't have all the bells and whistles the wifi cams have but for reliability, quality and the fact it can't be hacked probably makes it one of the best camera setup available on amazon

Arrived quickly and the cameras work well but I purchased the unit because it claimed you could hook up another monitor with RCA jacks. Unfortunately there are no RCA ports on the Defender monitor as claimed in the product description of this expensive unit.

Defender PhoenixM2 - I love it ! It was so easy to set up, good picture, instruction manual is on their website. I have it facing out the front door window to see who is at my door. Fabulous ! I am not using this camera for night vision as I have installed another camera outside that utilizes that feature. I am not using the microphone because it would pick up all the noise of the wind, traffic and airplanes etc. if turned on all the time but you could use it only when you wish to communicate. I love this camera and monitor because they are both plugged in and no batteries are necessary.

Used to replace a worn out First Alert system of one camera that was protecting my garage, car park, alley, and back yard. Two cameras now cover more of that space and the resolution is fantastic (clear details, and in bright colors). Not much instructions, so first timers might want to consult the online instruction book. Nothing to do really, remove from various plastic bags, attach cables (snap in) in all three pieces, and screw in the antennas and stands on the cameras. Plug in all three parts to a suitable surge protector (I like my new Revolve w/ rotating plugs to hold all the oversized adapters). Cameras immediately come on. Fool a bit with the settings, how long to record, etc. Personal preference really. I did not consult the online instructions. Then being a lazy sort of homeowner, I merely popped them on my inside window sill, pulled up the two corners of the screen and adjusted them to the right angle and closed the storm window(there is a roof overhang so window sill does not get wet). This gives me great wide look at whole backyard in both directions. Moved monitor to the bedroom directly west of the cameras and the whole system works beautifully (there is even a window a/c in this room and no problem with interference at all. This is a second floor application so the view is fantastic. This is a well made system, ie screen has an adjustable sturdy plastic foot, cameras are solid and stands easily adjust angles. While screen isplastic, cameras appear to be all metal of heavy duty weight. They stood up on their own with a little nudge and no fastening down. Fussy homeowners can hang out the window and fasten the cameras anywhere they like.Comes with two cameras, two stands, and three cords/adapters, slightly cheap fasteners for permanently fastening to house. Get some small (2"x2") decals that tell neighbors you have security cameras (if they have good eyes to see fine print). I would suggest ordering a BIG security camera sign on Amazon (I still had trouble with neighbors until the big signs went up, and now they run past property instead of stopping to look in my car windows). Also receive a little plastic pick for resetting device that looks like a dental floss pick that I will promptly lose. Few instructions, a few small paper directions on how to pair up the cameras if you have problem. They arrive paired up, so no problem there at all. Otherwise, consult the instruction book online if you are fussy and want to know every detail before you open box. But with just experience with an old, outdated system with one camera, I had system working in 5 minutes.Very pleased with this system, very detailed, beautiful resolution and color. Well made, sturdy, and easy to set up.

While looking for a wireless intercom for my front door, I ran across this self contained, wireless, integrated audio/video system with motion detection and DVR. It seemed too good to be true for the price but I had to try it out. It is truly a plug in and play. With out any wi-fi or computer connections or set up (which many of the intercom systems require) installation takes minutes not hours. Running the low voltage power to the camera might be a bit problematic but I just drilled through the wall, much like cable installers do. I've been using it for a month now and I am very impressed with the wireless picture quality and the operation of all of the functions. The auto iris in the camera can easily deal with situations having both bright and dark portions of the same picture. The detection area is larger then the picture frame so movement is detected even before the mover is in the shot. You will have to go to the Defender web site to down load the owner's manuel which is a good idea. The system will accommodate 4 cameras, and I am so happy with the way it works, I plan to add cameras to cover the rear of my property.

I bought my first set close to 10 years ago which are still working. I utilize these cameras in my barns while lambing. I bought another set so I’d have a few more views of the barn. They are easy to setup and have worked well for me.

UPDATE 10/30: I've improved my rating from 2 to 5 stars. I contacted Defender's support chat and was given a link to a firmware download with a detailed list of easy instructions. Customer service was excellent. The monitor is working fine now, no more "out of range" messages or problems with the color resolution. The rep indicated that a firmware update may be required about once a year.ORIGINAL REVIEW: I was initially impressed with this little unit but it's already having problems. The positives..... 1) The monitor received a steady signal and installation was easy. 2) The lens covers a wide area, about 100 feet. 3) Recording and playback were simple. 4) The camera is small and hides well under the eave. 5) Night vision is very good. Negatives: 1) The color resolution suddenly went haywire with no greens, only a washed-out pink, which makes it hard to see detail. 2) The microphone pickup has a loud static which has worsened with time. 3) The round toggle button on the monitor is too small, too sensitive, and tends to misfire. 4) There was no hard copy manual which is a pain.
