I purchased both these albums when they came out in the late 60's. I was in high school at the time in northern Minnesota. That's ranger country to those familiar with the territory and a long way from L.A. The first canned heat album is pretty much Canned Heats version of traditional blues. I was a little disappointed with this LP, but there are some good tunes here, Rollin and Tumblin and Dust my Broom are my favorites among others. Canned heat blew me away with their next release. "Boogie with Canned Heat" is a very good blues rock LP, (5 stars). The Fried Hockey Boogie was my favorite song for years and I still love it today. Evil Woman, On The Road Again and Amphetamine Annie are all top shelf songs. This album disappeared for many years. I seached for years to find a cd in the late 80's when most LP's were released as cd's. I finally found an import version in 1999.I saw Canned Heat live in 1970 when they were at their peak and nobody was dead yet. If your a 60's blues addict, you will need to freshen up your collection with this cd. I like the idea of two LP's on one cd. May the blues be with you.

Let's start with a rant, I gave this release only 3 stars not because of the actual product, but because BGO Records were too frugal to make this a 2 disc set instead of butchering the final track (Fried Hockey Boogie) by editing the 11:00 minute original version done to about half that. Seriously, why, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I'm pretty sure times aren't that tough were the label couldn't spring for the few extra cents to make this release a 2 disc set instead of one needlessly cut single disc.OK, rant over, I bought my first Canned Heat LP (included here) in the late 60's, and it was not only my introduction to the band but my introduction to the Blues. I've been a huge fan of both since. The first album, simply titled "Canned Heat" is made up of all covers and is more of a homage than just recording their version of the originals. Their second release, "Boogie With", finds the band writing most of the tracks. This album contains the classic "On The Road Again", which has been a radio classic ever since.I didn't know what to expect from this sound quality wise, but I would easily rate it a 5 out of 5, a headphones pleasure. Other than the one flaw editing wise this is nice find to add to the old collection

First of all, my review is for the Iconoclassic CD version released in December of 2012. Let's get THAT clear. Apparently, Amazon will put any old review of the album and it's NOT specific to the particular version of the album (that we all know, can vary widely). I have the BGO version that they edited Fried Hockey Boogie down from eleven minutes to less than seven minutes. THEY DO NOT DO THAT ON THE ICONOCLASSIC VERSION. OK, now that is clear. No real need to review the album. It's a stone(er) classic. I really owe my love of the blues to Canned Heat and Johnny Winter because as a young "Junior Groover" they exposed me to music I had not heard before. Not to many blues numbers on Monkees or Beatles albums. Anyway, if you need a copy of this album (and you do), THIS is the one to get. The sound is as you remember it from the vinyl. Clear 60's stereo channel separation and everything is mixed "in your face." The six bonus tracks were recorded in the early stages of the sessions. It would have been nice if they would have included the single mixes of "On The Road Again" and "Boogie Music", but you can't have everything in life. One last point, avoid like the plague the Magic (from France) versions of Canned Heat albums or ANY album for that matter. The discs denigrate in the cases to the point that they don't play anymore. I have a Magic version of "Hallelujah" that a nasty film on it as we speak. So anything by Magic: BEWARE!!
