I used this pole saw to trim a bunch of tree branches up to about 6 inches diameter and it cut right through with little effort. This is the second Sun Joe product I buy. The other one is a telescoping pole hedge trimmer which I’ve had for a few years and it has worked good so far, although both are a bit heavy at the cutting end where the motor is.

Was disappointed when the package arrived as the item was badly damaged. Kudos to Amazon for a fast replacement....packaging needs to be improved for that type of shipping.Used the replacement unit for the first time last weekend and it made short work of the pruning job. Easy to assemble, add oil and away you go.I cut through a variety of branch sizes, from 1/2" to 4" and it worked great every time. Can be a bit "bouncy" on thinner branches until the cut starts. Used it for over an hour and did not have to add any more oil despite what other reviews said.Did find it a bit hard to control at times when fully extended and the branch was cut through, the saw has a tendency to drop so you have to have a good grip.Only real problem is that you want to keep cutting more branches...it's so easy to use!!Would recommend to home gardeners wanting to prune back their own trees.

Preparation for use:- Came almost completely pre-assembled except for attaching the chain head. Some reviewers commented that the instructions were unclear and could lead to a person attaching the chain "backwards." The instructions, which may have been revised given that feedback, is very informative and I found I could easily install the chain correctly.- I recommend lightly filling the oil as the tank holds only 60 mL. Beware of overflowing it.During use:- The largest branch I cut was 9 cm in diameter; the saw is rated for almost double that, but I think that's stretch advertising. You'd have to be quite skilled to use the saw comfortably for large-diameter branches or trunks. That's beyond my beginner ability.- Kick back is low. Be careful of the saw getting stuck halfway if you're cutting 7 cm diameter or greater. Keep the trigger switch pressed until you're in the clear. After use/storage:- Empty the oil tank if you're planning to store it for greater than a couple of weeks. The oil leaks even if you leave it upright (oil tank opening facing upwards). The main pro is that the weight is manageable even at full extension. A con is that the saw teeth catches very easily to small branches, leaves, etc, so I found that I had to trim my hedge with a hedge trimmer a good deal in order to reveal the actual branches I wanted to saw off. Also, I kept peeling off the bark in a bad way during my cuts though I'm not sure if that's the saw or my poor skill.

When I bought this pole saw, I actually bought it for myself. I'm a petite woman of 5"3, there is no way I could use it, I found it too heavy for me, and my husband needed to do all the work. (He was not impressed.)We use this saw about 2-3 times a year, I find it does a great job, it has cut through some thick branches that we had. I kind of wish it could extend more, but I know that's impossible to do, because it is quite heavy. After use, my husband tells me his arms are sore. I do recommend this for someone who has strong arms.

This chainsaw took a long time to cut through a 6 inch branch. I feel it was defective item. Its also dangerous. A chain saw should be going through wood like butter when its properly greased. Upon returning online my only option was to pay shipping fees for a refund. So the item was 104 dollars and the shipping costs was 65 dollars. What a waste to basically lose 65 dollars on an item I can't use. I simply tossed the item in the garbage and will not by these type of products from amazon any longer. its best you buy these items from Canadian tire or Home depot so you can return defective items properly.

I got this as I was tired of trying to balance on top of a ladder to trim the tops off a hedge made of firs and spruce. Was always in danger of the ladder sliding off as I stretched to reach tops with a pruning lopper. This worked great as I could position myself and cut the tops of the hedge 10ft in either direction. Has enough power to cut through thick tops and branches with ease. Can tire the arms after a while but that is to be expected when you put a weight on the end of a 10ft pole. Very happy I bought this.

Pros: Relatively easy assembly. Quick and clean cuts working with branches from 4-6" in diameter. (Haven't tried any larger yet). Does the job as advertised.Cons: Unit is somehat heavy with most weight being at the extended cutting end. Most noticeable when working above shoulder level or extending the bar. Too heavy for my wife to use comfortably. Requires oil refill about every 20 minutes. Remaining oil has to be drained otherwise will leak out when the unit is idle.

I bought this pole saw to determine how feasible it would be to add one to the equipment on my tree farm. It worked well enough while plugged into my PTO generator that I permanently stored it in the tool shed and bought a top-of-the-line Echo to replace it. It was worth the 1100 dollars to get rid of that cord and the extra tractor and generator required for its operation, but I find no fault in the corded saw for more modest operations. It seems to last well. I put 20 hours this spring on my tractor/chipper chopping up the pine and walnut boughs I cut with the SunJoe. I think I sharpened it once during that interval, though it used a good deal of bar oil.
