Works well, but best carry an extra battery for event use. Picked up the remote head for the flash unit. Great for off camera shots. Syncs well.

I have this, my second unit which is dedciated to Nikon, though it will work in a limited fashion with other makes. I still have a Nikon body after making a complete switch in small format to Sony. My other unit is a Sony dedicated flash. So, basically, I have no problem as the prime unit, as my controller will tell everybody what to do, and so far no difficulties.I usually work only in manual so a lot of the "features" are somewhat redundant to me. Ttl is okay once you make the effort to dial in your preferences, but again, it is not something I need.It possesses all the requisite bells and whistles to be considered a "pro" flash. Zoom, HSS, various communication options, etc.The unit is very solidly built, feels quite robust, and it is fairly heavy (as are others that try to include everything in one small package).I have only used it a few times as an accent or small fill and it has worked without flaw. It is usually mounted on a bracket somewhere and is always triggered optically by my main, which is a b600, sometimes a Pro6.The fact that I can dial in minor adjustments at a distance with the QPro trigger/controller is for me, the single most attractive feature.I just recently bought a Godox S2 adapter so I can mount this, or my other one, into a light box or reflector as I have a few with the Bowens mount.A huge problem with the Z flashes at the outset was power options. There were none, except for the included li-ion battery. Now at least there are additional batteries available. Neewer has also just recently offered an accessory package that has a grid, filters etc. What would be fantastic would be the option for an external power supply . . . which will never happen.Once Neewer's on hand stock runs out . . . that is it. They don't make these . . . they buy them from Godox and rebrand, so the possibilty of future improvements based on user feedback is a big, fat zero. Too bad. It is a good flash at a decent price.I like it, I am quite happy with it, and I think it represents a decent alternative to name brand equipment.

While it may be working with contemporary Nikon Z mirrorless cameras, it does not work in TTL as advertised with Nikon DSLRs like D810.

I needed a new flash for a second Nikon Z7 body, and this Neewer round head TTL flash looked ideal. I needed more than a basic flash; I wanted one with some advanced features. And this flash has delivered. The Z1-N starts with a fresnel lens on the round flash unit, which gives a more evenly distributed illumination across the field (traditional rectangular flash heads have hotspots usually). With a color temperature of 5600K, it provides a natural-looking light and has remained stable in all my use so far. The zoom head capability can be adjusted manually, or by the camera, in the 28mm to 105mm range, and the flash has ten levels of brightness that can be selected. The list of features is impressive, but I won't bother quoting the product details here other than to say the super-fast 1/8000th sec flash has led to some interesting experimentation with live creatures. The flash takes a couple of hours to charge and then lasts about 500 flashes with a 1.5 sec recycle time. That makes it ideal for fast shooting, and I use this feature a lot at wedding shoots and action setups. I've used it as both master and slave with success. It took only a few shots to get used to this flash, and it's now my main flash unit. It's not inexpensive; there are less-expensive models out there, including some from Neewer, but this is the best flash I have tried on my Nikon Z-series bodies. I am impressed.

I switched over from Canon to Nikon and needed a new speedlight/flash. I had bought the Canon version of this when I was using Canon so I thought I'd stick with what I know and get the Nikon version so that TTL would work. They're not universal so if you don't have the compatible flash everything will work except the TTL function (which was the most important part for me). So, I ordered it. Got in just 2 days and it's perfect. Many settings (TTL, Manual, Multi) and you can vary the flash intensity with a turn of a dial. Very convenient. The head also lifts and rotates to allow you to throw light exactly where you want it regardless of your camera position. It also uses a battery pack that will last about as long as 2 sets of AA batteries. Great solution. Now, I want to say one other thing that's relevant. The one thing I was concerned about was diffusing the light. With my other speedlights, I use my Gary Fong diffuser but it won't fit the round head of this flash. Fortunately, Godox makes a diffuser that works perfectly (Godox AK-R11 Diffuser Dome - $11). It's magnetic and mounts to the front of this head perfectly. I included a photo of the flash with the diffuser installed to show that it fits perfectly. So don't avoid the round head design for lack of diffusion....there is a simple solution.Overall, excellent flash. Has lots to offer at a great price. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Flash for Nikon is a great addition to my gear. It delivers soft, even light, works perfectly with Nikon’s TTL, and has excellent battery life. It's a solid build and great value for the price. Highly recommended!

WOW!!! This speedlite is truly amazing. It is a very powerful speedlite that I have used in so many of my photoshoots. This speelite was shipped very quickly to my business, and hasn't been put down since it seems like. I love how it looks and sleek it is. It was easy to set up on my camera and to get everything connected correctly. One thing I will tell you is that you will need to pay very close attention to which speedlite you are needing for your camera system. This speedlite was purchased for my Nikon Z 6ii. I know each photographer prefers their own camera, so ensure that you get one that is compatible with your camera body. If you are looking to upgrade your speedlite then this is probably your best bet!

UPDATED November 11, 2023Reducing rating from four to only three stars. Here's why:At ISO 3200, this Z1-N flash exhibits banding in mixed flash/LED lighting on the Nikon D7100. I've attached two examples to this review: the lighter one is the Z1-N and the darker one is the Neewer 750 II for Nikon.Note the Z1-N image has solid bands that run through the chair back. Those bands are almost non-existent in the 750 II photo. This only happens with the D7100, not the D610, and at telephoto zoom settings (140mm specifically). But it does happen consistently. The Z1-N is a great flash that has many positive attributes. However the flash tube is linear, not circular, so the benefits of a round head disappear as the flash zooms to telephoto. Also you may or may not have problems in mixed LED/flash lighting. So consider other rectangle head Neewer flashes: I prefer the lighting of the 750 II with its diffuser over the Z1-N without.-----Original review:I received a discount from Neewer customer support as an incentive to purchase this flash. I was looking for a shoe mount flash with sufficient power to cover events held in a large banquet room, on the order of 500 people. My other flashes are a Neewer 750 II, a Nikon SB-800, a Neewer NW 180-N, and this flash. So far this is the best flash I've found for the job. The NW 180-N has more power at 150 watt-seconds, yet this Z1-N produces more effective illumination with just 76 watt-seconds. I don't know if that's due to an improvement in Neewer's Nikon compatible iTTL circuity or an improved flash head design. This Z1-N just flat out works the best compared to these other flashes. The lithium battery pack is a boon to event photography due to the ease of changing batteries and the improved cycle time. I shoot about 100-125 times per event, so having a single battery is sufficient for me. I wouldn't rely on just one for events of 250-300 or more shots: get a spare battery or purchase a kit with two. Here are some pros:- Effective flash coverage: best I've personally seen.- Fast recycle time: easily half that of fully charged 2000 mAh NiMh batteries. On par with yet slower than external power packs, e.g. Quantum Turbo.- Easy to use: I just set TTL and forget it.- Even lighting from one speedlight: works well even against white backgrounds that fool my other flashes.- Easy to recharge: includes a 5V 2A USB charger, USB-C cable, and charging dock. Here are some cons:- Extra batteries are expensive: see Amazon listings for current pricing.- Batteries are proprietary: one must purchase the Neewer brand.- Flash head does not lock: it tilts and swivels freely without pressing a safety button.- Build quality: decent to good, however probably not as durable as a Nikon brand flash. This is just my personal feeling comparing this flash hand-in-hand with the SB-800.Value for money: even without the discount I received, the Z1-N is about half of other Li-Ion powered round head speedlites (even though the head is round, the tube inside is linear). One can update firmware via USB-C if necessary. I would rather put the money saved towards light modifiers (such as diffusers, stands, and umbrellas) rather than spend more money on a flash that may not offer superior performance. In the long run, a lower cost flash with attachments will yield better results than a higher cost flash without them.

This is definitely worth it. I love my new flash. It’s taking my photos to the next level! However the battery life isn’t that great in my opinion. So I would recommend buying a back up
