I'll three star this product only because I like the idea of it, my dog doesn't see to allow me to use this. Maybe if your dog is well trained to keep still it would work. Just get clippers designed for trimming dog nails it's easier..

This is a great product! Works very at filing down large breed dog claws! Our Newfoundland dog is terrified of clippers and using this file was a great alternative! It fits comfortably in your hand and the pads stay in place! Works really well, great for nervous dogs or for smoothing out after clipping!

This is a nicely made product, well designed and it works as it should. My dog doesn’t care for anything to do with her toes. Clipping nails is quicker than this if your dog is intolerant of paw/nail handling. My dog kept pulling her paw away so it was difficult to accomplish too much with this nail file. However, if your dog is trained to this at the outset or is tolerant of their paws being handled, this is a good product. It’s cleverly designed. A very sturdy “Velcro” type system keeps the round coarse sanding disks in place. There was no shifting of the sanding rounds while attempting to file my dog’s nails. The wooden finial type knob fits nicely in the hand. There’s a total of 8 coarse sanding rounds included in the kit. When clipping a dog’s nails, a clipper will often leave a rough or split edge. This will keep the nails in good condition.

VINE REVIWS - Our Labrador dog does not like when someone touches his toes or nails and he would want to run away as soon as he sees nail filer or hair trimmer. We tried various options, but no success so far. When I saw this nail filer, I thought this may work as this is manual and maybe he is scared of the machine sounds even though the sound is very less for human ears. So, when this arrived and we got the stamp look filer out of the box and attached one of the provided sandpaper. First, our dog thought this is his new toy and he wanted to play with it. Then, by offering him some treats and so, we encouraged him to come to us so we can at least try once.As soon as we moved the filer towards his toes, he ran away and never let us touch his toes or nails throughout the day. We tried this for 3-4 days with same result and no success. Now, this cute filer is sitting in his stuff and of no use to us. Our only bet is to go to pet care professionals and get his nails done and hair trimmed.
