Better then I expected and my boys loved them.They are heavy though, as there is chain under the wrap (I assumed is would have been a lighter weight braided cable)

This feels like a sturdy and well-made lock. It is a 3 ft chain covered in a durable-feeling orange fabric to protect the chain from scratching objects. The colour stands out pretty well, and personally matches my bike as well.The lock mechanism uses a 5-digit combination, and the dials are quite large and easy to read. The dials are plastic with large indentations and turn with a solid-feeling click. It requires 2 clicks to move from one number to the next, and there are little triangle markers on each end to indicate where you need to line up the numbers.Setting your own combination is quick and easy. Once opened, you have access to a knob on the end of the combination cylinder that can be turned a quarter turn clockwise to put it in “set” mode. From there, you can just turn the number dials to your desired combination and rotate the knob back when done.While the lock does feel quite strong, it obviously isn’t the highest security lock you can get. The chain of the lock isn’t as thick as some others out there, but it’s not like anyone is likely to be able to break it open without tools. It would still require a pair of bolt-cutters, etc., either way, so I don’t think that’s a big issue as far as most chain locks go. There are tougher locks out there, but most of them don’t have the flexibility of a chain lock and usually come with a higher price tag as well. A lock like this is a deterrent and effective against a typical passerby, but realistically, a determined thief with the proper tools will get through it (and most other locks as well, to be fair).The lock isn’t a bad length for most situations, but I would have preferred it if it was a bit longer to offer a little more versatility depending on what you’re locking it to or if you’re trying to lock 2 bikes, removed wheels, on a bike stand/hitch, etc. The 3 ft length can be a little short at times so that’s something to consider with how you plan to use it.If you’re looking for a chain lock and the length is ok for you, then this is a pretty decent option for the price.

I picked up this bike lock because I wanted something a little more secure than the usual cable locks, and this one really delivered. The 5-digit combo gives way more code options than the standard 4-digit ones, which definitely makes me feel better about leaving my bike locked up in busier areas. Setting my own combination was easy - took maybe a minute and the instructions were straightforward.The chain itself feels sturdy and tough, but what I really like is the fabric wrap. It doesn’t scratch up the frame of my bike and it also makes it more comfortable to handle. No more freezing cold metal when unlocking it early in the morning, which is a small thing but actually makes a difference.I’ve been using it to lock two bikes together when we go riding as a family, and the length is perfect for that. It’s also worked well for locking my bike to random objects when I’m out and about - railings, poles, whatever. Super versatile.It’s not too heavy to carry around either. I usually toss it in my backpack and don’t even notice the weight. If you're looking for something with a strong mix of security, durability, and ease of use, this lock is a solid pick. Definitely gives me peace of mind when I have to leave my bike unattended.

Lots to like about it from the material covering to help protect from scratching paintwork to the quality of the locking barrel and the combination dial.The clicks on the combination dial to me all feel very solid and very similar – I have sometimes found on lower quality chains that some clicks are definitive whilst the rest you hardly feel click…Also with it having a 5 digit combination it gives 100,000 different combinations.To set the lock is very straight forward – with the lock open turn the end of the barrel per the arrow on the brass end (per photo with review) – set combo – turn brass end back and done!Per photos with review the lock weighs 623gr – so whilst heavy duty it is not that heavy in weight to carry around on bike etc.

I own a Heavy Duty Via Velo Gold Rated U-Lock, i love that thing and definitely protects my bike when i need to place it for an extended (bear in mind that extended means a couple of hours) amount of time on a rack or out of sight in general.The issue i have with U-Locks is its inherent weight and sheer size, when i go out with my ultralight water hydration backpack i only carry a mini bike pump and a multitool for emergencies, adding a U-Lock adds a lot of weight to my backpack.I was torn between a cable lock and a lightweight chain that wasn't super thin, and i found the perfect balance here, at around 1.3 Pounds this chain lock is pretty lightweight, but 6mm links will provide a decent amount of protection and it's not as easy to cut as a cable lock, sure, it can definitely be cut with the proper tools, but it'll take either larger tools or more time than the cable one.The locking mechanism is smooth and setting a new combination was easy using the standard procedure.I didn't go and try to pick it or find if it's "double gated" or has fake trips to throw you off as every locking mechanism is only as strong as its weakest link, thieves won't be picking, they will be cutting.The bottomline is that i ordered this Via Velo Chain for short(er) stops or longer stops if within my sight to secure my bike, it feels sturdy and a great balance of weight and protection, also looks super cool. At $14 this is a bargain, definitely recommended!

I’ve been using the Via Velo Bike Chain Lock for a few weeks now, and overall, I’m really impressed with how sturdy and user-friendly it is. Easy to Set the Combination: Resetting the code was simple thanks to the clear instructions. It’s nice to ditch the keys and just use a combination. Length is Just Right: At 2.95 feet (about 35 inches), it’s long enough to lock my bike frame and wheel to a bike rack without struggling. Protective Sleeve: The chain is wrapped in a fabric cover that prevents scratches on your bike – a thoughtful touch. Cons: A Bit Heavy: While the weight adds security, it’s not the most lightweight option if you’re looking to carry it on long rides.
