I am happy, this attachment exists, shame on Apple for always changing the ports every year it seems! Sadly, I do find this attachment drains the battery quite fast on my iPad, even when the iPad is closed in sleep mode, but I leave it plugged in. But ultimately it does the job, just be sure to unplug it when finished using it.

This works to retro fit lightening based headphones to the USB-C port.Note: this will not work for car Audio/Carplay. You will need to look at a dongle that supports data transfer.
