If you live in an area where Trunking or Digital Radio systems are used, you need to upgrade to a Uniden Digital model (“D” stands for Digital), such as models BCD436HP, BCD536HP, BCD996P2, BCD325P2, or HomePatrol-2.

Works great but you really do need the software (not included but you can download) to program it. The controls are very complex, but the software makes it easier to use.

This is a great radio, easy to program easy to set up and great reception.Since it has an antenna that is designed for aviation, rail, marine and weather and so much more it does a great job picking up signals from a great distance. I can listen to air traffic over a hundred miles away on a clear day and have awesome reception .I used to have a scanner that was just for aviation that I paid over $300 for and for the value of this radio I am better reception and highly recommend it if you're a trainspotter or a plane spotter

A bit difficult to program, but worth it. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 as the website in the book for the programming software was invalid. I found one that wanted $30 for the software. Called Uniden, and did get the free included software.

Best product of it's category. To program it, I suggest the Scan 125 application, downloadable for windows. It's the most useful and complete. The BC125AT is the best scanner for the price. To get a better range, I suggest the Diamond RH77CA. With this antenna, I get a long range, perfect for aviation and railroad. 100% review!

I ordered this radio to listen to mostly emergency, ham and cb exchanges. Very nice and solid feeling device. However this is old technology. Maybe 40 years ago it would have been perfect. But today everything is digital and encrypted. The radio wad locking on numerous transmissions, but all I was able to hear was intermittent buzzing sounds.... Most likely encrypted digital transmissions.I had to manually skip to the next channel. It was locking like that every few seconds.Maybe once a day I was able to hear a cb exchange for a minute or two. The only thing that was working perfectly was the weather Channel. However, I can get weather information in multiple ways and get ready for bad weather. If I am in the middle of a storm, I don't need the weather Channel to tell me about, I'll know.I sadly decided to return it.

This is an excellent scanner that does exactly what it is supposed to do. Understand that this is an analogue scanner and it is not able to receive digital signals or do trunk tracking or decode encrypted signals. It works extremely well for the frequency ranges it is able to receive.

You pretty much want to be a rocket scientist to read the instructions and use this thing. I'm a commercial helicopter pilot, so I'm used to manuals and instructions on a technical level. But this thing... It's almost like Uniden went out of their way to make this ridiculously complicated, when it doesn't need to be. I have an older Bearcat version of this unit, and it is far more user friendly, and much easier to program and operate. Uniden did a great job sucking the fun and excitement out of this product, by making it stupidly complicated. The instruction book should be five pages at best, not seventy-five. No, I do not recommend it. Yes, I will be returning it.

This handheld scanner is ideal for listening in on all frequencies (railway, CB, EMF, Marine etc). It's relatively easy to add in your own frequencies and interest(s) using the scanner, however, easier and faster still with the free software that you can download from Uniden to programme the scanner using your computer then saving the files onto the scanner and in files on your computer for updates, and changes. Using the free software makes it easier to add/remove frequencies, text, preset lockouts, add banks and so on. Text tags for better identification with the frequencies is a plus (tedious if use the scanner to add this feature though). Range is quite good with the antennae that comes with the unit. The Close Call and Search features are useful especially for new frequencies not yet listed in books or at radioreference. It uses two rechargeable batteries (probably the better way) and you can recharge them while using your computer or better still to get one of those plug adapters from Apple and just plug into a wall outlet. Overall, with all the scanners I have had in the past this one is by the best in ease of use and programming, and clear audio. Well worth the purchase.

I have a few UNIDEN Scanners. This is the best analogue scanner I have ever used. Even though it’s the USA version it works great in Australia. Very easy to setup. I am a experienced scanner user which helps. It’s very powerful at pulling in Ambulance frequency’s as well as Airband. Also UHF, VHF. Some armature radio frequencies and many others. Also has a very high volume level capability. Thanks to the seller for providing this scanner it’s a beauty.

I like this scanner (the BC125AT) better than the SR30 because it has Alpha tagging (that is, readable labels displayed for each channel, in addition to the frequency assigned to the channel). Otherwise, this scanner is very similar to the SR30. I like that it is compact and lightweight, and easy to read when set so that the display backlight comes on automatically when a channel activates (and turns off when the channel clears).Although it is quite cumbersome and time-consuming to program these units manually, the available (free) programming software makes it a breeze to create one or more channel files, and download whichever configuration is desired. Also, the configuration currently stored in the scanner can be uploaded to the software, where it can be edited and/or saved as desired for backup and/or to update the current configuration. It's even POSSIBLE to create a program file for the SR30 using a file for the BC125AT or vice-versa but because the two units have different file formats, it's necessary to "work" the files to make them cross-compatible (unless Bearcat has now created a file converter app, or you write your own converter). In any case, this file conversion was useful for me so that I could "easily" program my SR30 to have the same configuration as my BC125AT - or vice-versa - by creating a template file - or by uploading the configuration from one scanner - and then re-formatting its data to produce a file for the other model scanner. (Of course, any Alpha Tagging (labels) had to be added manually for the BC125AT's version). And, of course, the model-appropriate configuration files can be used to program more than one scanner of the same model to have the same configuration, if desired. As for features, the BC125AT is similar to the SR30, although it seems to scan more slowly than the SR30. I like most aspects of both models, but there are a few things about both that annoy me:- The units cannot scan while recharging the installed batteries. (However, the units CAN scan while connected to external power but the batteries won't be recharged while the unit is on - inconvenient!).- The channel lock-out "mechanism" is cumbersome to activate unless the channel is currently active.- Certain other keyboard operations seem more difficult than they need to be.- The multi-function knob makes it difficult to adjust the volume and particularly the squelch functions.- It is like pulling teeth to find out details of how some of the features are used and/or how they are intended to work, because apparently, they are not fully documented anywhere - and even the support folks don't know how some things work.- To my knowledge, there is no mobile installation kit to allow the scanner to be operated in a vehicle and then easily removed for temporary hand-held use.- There is no compatible (32-ohm) external speaker offered for use with these scanners.Despite the annoyances, these scanners otherwise function well.
