After installing a brand new TP-Link AXE75 (AX5400) WiFi 6E wireless router, I will still getting weak spots in the some rooms. I was hoping this would fix the issues with my Linksys Atlas mesh wireless network, which had good range but devices kept binding to a weaker node and wasn't switching nodes seamlessly. After doing some research, I bought this TP-Link RE315 Range Extender because it could work with my router using TP-Link's OneMesh/EasyMesh system. I was a bit skeptical given my bad experience with the Linksys mesh system. Setup was incredibly simple, I plugged the RE315 into a power outlet that was more central in my home, on a different floor from router. Pressed the WPS buttons on both the router and range extender and after a couple of minutes, they paired and the RE315 extended my 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. Using my router's web interface, I could see the RE315 as a "Mesh device".To test, I used my Pixel 6 and the WiFi Analyzer app on 5GHz network. With this phone on my previous Linksys Atlas mesh, it would bind to a node but wouldn't switch to the stronger node, even if I was 1 ft away from it. I had to turn off WiFi and turn it back on before it bound to nearest node. With my TP-Link EasyMesh setup, I could see my Pixel 6 was connected to the AXE75 router. As a moved downstairs and was a few feet away from RE315, I saw the connection switch to the range extender. It was completely seamless and I didn't lose the WiFi network, it just switched. With WiFi Analyzer, I could tell which network device I was connected to based on Mac address and IP. Onto an Internet speed test. Connected upstairs to AXE75, I was getting 600 Mbps down, 300 Mbps up on and 1Gbps Internet. Connected to the RE315, I was only getting 90 Mbps down, 60 Mbps up, which seems slow but I was expecting that with range extender as half the bandwidth is connecting to the main router, while other half is for clients. This is also a WiFi 5 AC1200 ranger extender, compared to my WiFi 6E AX router. So I was pleased with this performance since the area I was getting the dead spots in, I was now seeing full strength with good speeds, which is much better than dropped connections I was getting not using the range extender, or with my previous Linksys Atlas mesh.

I picked up the TP-Link AC1200 WiFi Extender (RE315) to eliminate dead zones in my home, especially for my office and living room. After some testing, here’s what I think about it:ProsSeamless connection: Works great with TP-Link’s OneMesh system. My devices now switch between the - router and extender seamlessly without dropping the connection.- Improved coverage: Eliminated dead spots, and I’m now getting full-strength WiFi in areas thatpreviously had weak signals.- Easy setup with WPS: Plug it in, press WPS, and it pairs with the router in minutes.- Affordable: It’s budget-friendly compared to other extenders on the market.Cons- Slower speeds on extender: While the main router hits 600 Mbps, the extender maxed out at around 90 Mbps down, which is expected for a WiFi 5 device.- Not ideal for non-TP-Link routers: Performance and compatibility issues may arise with other brands like Bell or Rogers.- Setup struggles: The manual isn’t clear, and I had to rely on tech support for help during the initial setup.- Limited speed improvement: If you’re expecting speeds close to your router’s performance, this extender may fall short. The RE315 isn’t perfect, but it’s a reliable solution for fixing weak WiFi spots. It’s a great option if you’re using a TP-Link router with EasyMesh and value budget-friendly gear. Just don’t expect blazing speeds or flawless performance with non-TP-Link setups.

Time may tell, but I just set this up and was pleasantly impressed.I just moved my office to a sunroom on the second floor of the house that is almost as far away from our modest router as it could be. We pay for 100/10 basic internet and the router does an adequate job, but I noticed that in this new room the signal was weak.I was skeptical about devices such as these knowing that mesh networks are the way to go, but given the price I decided to try it just to see if it might help. Before setting it up I tested my internet and on my 2.4ghz wifi was getting 9.7mbs download/10mbs upload.I set the extender up, which was very easy and took only a few minutes, retested with fast.com and my speed has jumped to 81/11mbs - a substantial and surprising leap. The 5ghz network likewise gained at least 25-30mbs more on the download. I tested with Ookla Speedtest just to make sure there wasn't bias through fast.com, and while the numbers were a bit more humble (~10/10 - 41/11), it is still a significant and noticeable boost in the quality of the signal. For now I am impressed - it does exactly what it says it is supposed to better than I thought it would.

Connected to WiFi easily, but couldn't connect any of my devices to it (wouldn't accept network password, which is supposed to be the same as the existing network password). Sent support request to TP-LINK and received an AI generated email. The instructions weren't of any help (e.g. turn power off and on, make sure you are entering correct password, etc.). Sent a reply but never heard back from them. Did some research on line. Downloaded their Tether app and changed the password on the unit to match the existing password. Was able to connect 1 device. About an hour later the 2.4 / 5 lights went out. Went through the process several times and still no luck. I was a network administrator for year but couldn't make this work.

Setting up the extender is a breeze, and the reception has improved notably. I really like the one-mesh technology, eliminating the need to change networks at home.

I purchased this TP-Link WiFi extender to improve coverage in my home, and overall, it does a great job. The setup was incredibly easy—just plug it in, follow the app instructions, and it connects seamlessly to my existing router. The signal boost is noticeable, and I now get better coverage in areas that previously had weak or no WiFi.However, I did notice a slight drop in speed compared to being directly connected to the main router. It’s not a dealbreaker, but if you're expecting full-speed performance, keep that in mind. Also, placement is key—if it's too far from the router, the signal strength diminishes. For the price, it’s a great solution to extend WiFi in dead zones. While it’s not perfect, it’s definitely worth considering if you need better coverage in certain parts of your home.Would recommend!
