I tried to get into the DAW world and found some immediate limitations, primarily having to do with latency and getting a real "live" sound. The DP24SD bridges the gap, allowing a more natural recoding process while still having some excellent digital on board effects and processing. It can certainly be used with a DAW, but as a standalone unit works fantastically. The only limitation I found is that you can't apply the compressor to post recording signal paths or in the final mix, though there is an external effects loop and apparently there is a way to add compression when bouncing tracks. Otherwise, I see no deficits at all. The unit is very well built, has a great display that is easy to understand and work with, has a very user friendly physical layout, all the buttons and knobs are good quality, and the overall recording quality is excellent.

Superb sound quality (24bit/48kHz) and more really useful features than any other competitor's multitrack recorders.

I have been making music since I was young and from a small tape recorder at that time with lots of WOW and FLUTTER, today with our digital technology we can expect what the DP32SD gives, a very good sound, very interesting to learn all about it, lots of pleasure to make music with such a very nice recorder. The manual is not always clear but we have to experiment to find the solutions to achieve our musical project. The video screen is very pleasant to work with, very colorful and understandable. It is my 3rd recorder from TASCAM and all of them were good. Try it you'll see !

Amazon delivered the product very quickly with the excellent condition.I was looking for an audio tool which I would not need a computer, a DAW or plugins. Before I started I gained more knowledge with the proaudioexp tutorial. It helps a lot to understand this machine to have a good start. What I prefer is the function PUNCH IN AND OUT which allows me to create my loops. Also allows quick correction of recording errors (IN & OUT fades are very, very well programmed).I admit that there is still some manipulation of the tracks when I want to insert compressor, some effects and equalizer but I get used quickly.I am from the old school, I work with a module Roland D-05 (formerly the D-50 synthesizer of 1987), guitar Fender, my voice and harmonica. Before I recorded with Sonar and Harrison Mixbus and NOW TASCAM DP-24 SD ABOLUTELY. Very cool. The only software with which I occasionally modify some tracks is Melodyne Studio of Celemony.Pros24-bit Quality Studio. Its more realistic.Every tools.Mastering tools.EMPHASIS ON THE MUSICAL COMPOSITION and not on the artificial effects of the plugins in a DAW.Cons.A little too much manipulation for inserting effects. On the other hand it is realistic.

I ordered three months ago to lock in the sale price and payment plan. Finally shipped. Definitely worth the wait. A true beast of a machine. When you consider the original 4-track cassette Portastudio 144 retailed for around US$900 in 1980 (that's around US$2700 today), the Tascam flagship is a bargain even if you pay full price. Yes, anything you can do with this you can also do with a computer/interface/DAW setup. But there is just something gloriously inspiring and nostalgic about working on a recorder that is the descendent of the great multitrack machines of the past. Feature packed but still easy to get started. The manual is dry so be sure to check out excellent YouTube reviews and tutorials. One last thing--several Tascam recorders are plagued with preamp noise, but the DP32SD is just glorious--just record on 24bit for best results.

This is an eight track recorder. It has only two mic inputs but they can be assigned to any of 7 channels so recording of two channels at a time is possible, don’t have mic’s there are two built in. The inputs have selector switches for the built in or the XLR mic plug and the A input has a ¼ inch Guitar plug. There is a master and each channel has its own level control for recording or playback to the stereo mix. Includes the power supply and a very good manual. Also can do eq and compression in the final mix.

As many people have mentioned, there is a definite learning curve to exploring and recording on this Tascam. It is replacing a Tascam 244 which is very basic compared to the effects and multiple tools to work with. So far I have only transferred some of the recordings from the 244 to the DP-32SD which allowed to work with some of the features of it. I hope to very soon lay down some new tracks and work with them which I am excited to do.Like any other new toy, it takes time to learn, however I feel confident that this will be used even more than the 244 and hopefully last just as long if not longer. If you have any basic recording skills or eager to learn this multi-track recorder is for you.

Easy to use with the benefit of allowing 8 instruments to be played together. Fantastic mixing desk and brilliant recorder. Upgraded from a Tascam DP008ex, which is also a great device.
