**Edit**We just returned from a road trip to Florida and back and this bad boy outdid itself, once again! We drove over 6000 kms with it on the minivan this time around, and it held up beautifully! Once again, we drove through freezing cold weather, rain, intense heat, and back to snow, high winds, and freezing temps without any issues whatsoever. In total, this carrier has travelled over 10,000 kms and is still going strong. This is the best $150-$200 we have ever spent.******We travelled over 4000 kms with this cargo carrier on the top of our minivan, and it held up 100%! We are super impressed! We left northern Ontario, Canada and drove through rain, snow, freezing rain, sleet, hail, incredible high winds, to finally arrive to sunshine and hot weather in South Carolina. We literally encountered every type of precipitation you can encounter, and everything stayed dry, nothing broke, the straps held everything perfectly. Where safely possible, we drove anywhere from 100km/hr up to 130km/hr at times, for four full 10-12 hr days straight, and we didn’t worry about the cargo carrier shifting at all. We managed to fit 3 large hardcover suitcases plus small backpacks, 3 boogie boards and a small camping chair in it.We are extremely satisfied with how well everything worked out given the low cost of the carrier compared to others.Slow clap to the manufacturer!

I ordered this semisoft / tarp material carrier for my 2011 SiennaSize -- knowing the cross car (rail to rail) was smaller than the width of this unit. I squeezed its deformable base (and all bags within the rails) and then expanded by putting 4" pvc pipes along the Drv/Pass sides to give side wall rigidity/prevent flapping (the height of my bags didn't take up all of the volume). I also put smaller bags at front in order to crush down more and have a wedge/ramp shape to reduce drag/flapping.Ease of Use-- takes a good 20 mins to pull zippers/straps tight and tie loose ends.I'm 6ft tall and could manage pulling / manipulating the flap lid to open/close over my luggage/bags from my sliding doors and rear bumper. If you're not as tall/less reach, you may need to consider the plastic foot step you can buy separately that attaches to the inner door loop.To pull the zipper closed, you really need to fight to keep the lid/flap from bending, so as to keep it parallel to the bottom half (more rigid). Once the zippers are pulled to the rear of vehicle, the pull down straps eat up the slack in the fore/after and cross car directions adequately (make sure to pull buckles to tightest positions)PROS -- having 6 buckles on 3 straps equally spread out and engaged with OEM roof rack felt sturdy and strong. Assuming a 5g load, 100 lbs max carrier means a 500 lbs force3 straps => 167 lbs each (fabric was thick/wide enough like camping backpacks)6 buckles=> 83 lbs each (plastic felt strong like on camping backpacks)At each strap the tarp fabric is reinforced and will likely be your eventual point of fatigue, failure (cracking/tearing) given the material type. Especially if you allow the material to violently flap with wind resistance. Product longevity will likely depend on excessive tension (or loose flapping) causing material wear/tearing and creasing of tarp material while packed in longterm storage.Bang for buck -- I had to transport my family's vases/paintings to NYC on an 8hr road trip. Unfortunately with kids, there was no interior room left to pack weekend clothes for everyone. Having this temporary carrier allowed me to keep my valuables in the car and bags of clothing outside. After delivery/weekend, our return trip had the carrier easily folded/stowed inside along with our bags of clothing. Saved me from needing two cars or renting a UHaul trailer. For the price, it was a welcomed increase in (weatherproof) vehicle storage (no additional $400tow hitch/$200basket, no roof cross bars for a $600 roof coffin, etc).CONS -- antislip mat was a little small for it's purpose. If you do not center it properly (and pull straps tight) the wind resistance will slide the whole carrier rearward. **As stated by others, adding your own frictional pad to add compression/prevent paint damage would help (similar spongy perforated rubber) increase vehicle to carrier grip. Conclusion -- price is very attractive for less frequently used carrier that may be easily folded/stowed after use (especially for underground parking/garages).

This was fairly easy to install and remove. 26 cubic feet is a lot of stuff. It is also water proof even in heavy rain. Two downsides.First your car will no longer be water tight because installing these interrupts the door seals. In a heavy rain storm you will have steady drips coming into the car at each strap.Second you mileage will suffer. You will easily need 50% gas to make it to your destination.

We tried using this for our very first camping trip as a family of three. The zippers just constantly split and would not hold together. Seemed super cheap quality zipper wise....other than that, the product was very easy to put on the car and held a lot of items that would otherwise make our car packed.

Happy with the overall capacity for holding things and it's ability to keep things dry even in a rain storm on a highway. Not so happy that the buckles broke on the second trip. That the fiddly strap roll-up solution wasn't great. It worked, but it wasn't great. 3/5 Would not recommend to friends, but I would look forward to a new revised version that has much stronger buckles.

I recently purchased the Rooftop Cargo Carrier, a 26 cubic feet soft-shell waterproof car roof luggage bag, and I must say, it has exceeded all my expectations. This cargo carrier has truly been a game-changer for my travel adventures, offering exceptional quality, ample storage space, and hassle-free installation.First and foremost, the waterproof feature of this cargo carrier is outstanding. I've encountered some heavy rain during my trips, but not a single drop of water made its way inside the bag. The durable and waterproof materials used to construct this carrier provide excellent protection for all my belongings, giving me peace of mind throughout the journey.Speaking of storage space, the 26 cubic feet capacity is more than enough to accommodate all my luggage, whether it's bulky camping gear or multiple suitcases. The soft-shell design allows for easy loading and flexible packing, making it incredibly convenient to organize my belongings. Additionally, the bag is designed to fit all types of vehicles, including SUVs with or without roof rails, making it a versatile choice for all travelers.Installation of the Rooftop Cargo Carrier is a breeze. With the included 10 reinforced straps and 6 door hooks, securing the bag to my vehicle was quick and effortless. The straps are sturdy and reliable, ensuring a snug and secure fit even during long drives. The anti-slip mat provided with the carrier adds an extra layer of stability, preventing any shifting or sliding of the bag while on the road.Another notable advantage is the compact storage bag that comes with the carrier. Once I'm done with my trip, I can easily fold and store the bag without taking up much space in my vehicle or garage. It's a thoughtful addition that adds convenience to the overall package. In terms of durability, the Rooftop Cargo Carrier has proven itself to be built to last. Despite being exposed to different weather conditions and rough terrains, the bag has shown no signs of wear and tear. The materials are of high quality, and the reinforced stitching ensures the longevity of the carrier. To sum it up, the Rooftop Cargo Carrier is an exceptional product that delivers on its promises. Its waterproof nature, spacious capacity, easy installation, and durability make it an indispensable travel companion for any adventure. Whether you're planning a road trip or simply need extra space for your belongings, this cargo carrier is a fantastic investment. We bought this bag for travel in Costa Rica. Before we flew down, we checked it for defects and sample packed it on the ground with luggage, but how would it fit and perform on an unspecified rental? Vamos Rent-A-Car provided our vehicle with roof rails as booked, and their mechanic was onsite and adjusted the rails to the bag length. Sweet!I absolutely ignored one apparently incorrect installation instruction that came with the bag and is also in MCBD’s video on Amazon. Please listen. The directions and video indicate to install the bag with the MCBD logo facing the front of the vehicle. Bad idea. My bag, and the one they install in the video, have the logo printed below the zipper. This is the BACK panel. On a rooftop bag with 3 zippered sides, for the best wind and water shielding performance, the non-zippered side should always face the FRONT. I am reaching out to MCBD about this apparent error, I will update this if they give me any detail.Loading and securing the 21 cubic foot bag was easier with two people. It held our six hard suitcases - four medium and two smaller carry-ons. I brought ratchet straps and zip ties as a precaution, but didn’t need them. TSA had no issues with the bag or ratchet straps in our carry-on luggage. The bag was in use for about seven hours total over three days, with the bag being removed and installed between uses. Our drives included 2-3 hours of light rain. Despite bumpy roads with potholes and speed bumps, the bag stayed secure, and with the non-zippered side facing the front, everything remained dry. I periodically checked the straps, and they held firm.Another key to having no bag issues was loading the roof bag with no sharp or pointy edges or objects against the bag or it’s zippers. We made sure to place the suitcases so their wheels faced into the center of the bag, and packed so the zippers did not have to be strained to close, and had even tension on them.

I drove from Houston TX, to San Antonio, TX and then to Anchorage, AK, roughly 4,500 miles with this on top of my VW Jetta. Lost one hook immediately so i had 5 hooks and the 2 ratchet straps. Yes, gas mileage was cut in half, but I am hauling a car full of junk, that is expected. I may have put a bit heavier stuff than i should've, and there was a slight dent. There was no leakage. There was a shift about 1 foot from the front towards the back that it slid over those thousands of miles. None of my stuff got wet despite rain, sleet, and snow. I put in some heavy stuff and items with non-rounded corners and stuffed it to the point i had issues closing the zipper... but it held up great, no issues with any of my stuff other than one items froze from the cold and leaked some (not this bag's fault).Overall this was a great purchase! It allowed me to bring much more stuff than i would've fit in my car alone.
