Really improving hand eye coordination for my preteen son/athlete

When we took this thing out of the packaging it already had paint chips all over it and when I started tossing it with my daughter, the paint started peeling off. We thought it would be a fun toy to try out but were immediately disappointed. If this thing hits the ground or a fingernail, the paint chips off and starts peeling. It's unbelievably cheap and basically after the paint peels off, you'll be tossing around a black foam triangle. Don't waste your money!

This is a great tool to help athletes work on their hand-eye coordination. I would say that this is great for younger athletes to help them work on developing their reflexes when it comes to baseball or softball. The materials seem to be fairly durable and yet safe enough if a person misses it, it shouldn't really injure them. Also, this has hit the ground multiple times and I have not noticed any issues with paint chipping. I'm sure that over time, with most tools, the more one uses it the more likely it is to get dinged up. I like that this can be used individually or with partners. It's easy enough to challenge yourself if you're looking to get some practice in when others aren't around. Overall, this is a great tool for anyone looking to improve their focus and hand-eye coordination.

I’m going to spare you my opinion on whether this will actually make you a better ball player and let you decide for yourself. The Performance Cortex by Zach Schonbrun is an interesting read on how neuroscientists are working to improve performance at the plate. I imagine that if used in an environment that replicates the conditions of an actual baseball diamond, e.g., on a 10” high mound, 60’ 6” away, training with this device would improve your ability to visually pick up the ring leaving the hand and then again visually pick up the ring before catching it. Whether improvement in catching the ring would translate into improvement in game time hitting or whether this training would help you improve faster than simple repetition at the plate, I don’t know.I had none of the bad experiences of the other reviewer. The ring is a high density foam weighing about 8 ounces. The paint seems to be very durable. I even tried to scratch some of it off and didn’t have any luck. Maybe if it was exposed to prolong periods of sunlight or something? Overall, it’s a foam ring with three different colors painted on it. A $30 price tag feels like a little much, especially given the uncertainty of whether this device will actually improve gameplay. However, it’s exactly as described in the listing. The pictures and description are accurate.
