I needed to replace the MagSafe 2 DC board on an early 2013 Macbook Pro model A1398. This was due to a fault in the power supply, which had a T connector with sticky pins. This resulted in some sparking and other nasties i.e. this had gone beyond what cleaning might otherwise fix. The part itself works. Amazon suggested buying the screwdrivers/spudger kit shown in the photo, and for the extra $5 am I ever glad that I did. The actual replacement procedure does take a while, and needs to be done in a calm environment. For those looking to understand the procedure, consult the iFixIt website which has a reasonable guide - although be sure to read the comments as well. In addition to replacing the DC board, I also replaced the charger at the same time - be careful selecting these, cheapest is likely not best nor safest!

My old port was getting very hot, and wouldn't stay connected. This one works perfectly so far. I took the advice from another reviewer (Levi Thomas I think) and didn't take the logic board out. I just removed the screws near the port and bent the logic board enough to get the connector attached. After a couple of years of having to fiddle with the cable to get it to charge, it's nice to just attach the cable, and have it start right away.

After installing it, works like a charm! The port can be a little hard to replace so be prepared before you commit. Only negative comment is that the length of the connector seems to be a little shorter than the OEM port. This makes installation a little trickier as the port is underneath the logic board but still not impossible.

After 8 years of use, the MagSafe adapter on my 2012 MBP had a thin carbonized layer on it from all the electricity run through it. This caused lots of heat to be generated, which made the laptop heat up, which freaked out the temperature sensors, which kicked in the CPU throttling kernel_ext subroutine in OSX. So basically anytime I charged, the fan would go on and the computer would get real SLOOOOOOOWWWWW and very, very hot.Replacing the adapter worked perfectly - I used the steps on ifixit to guide me. It was a tough install (1 hour) but saved me at least $300 in repairs, and probably a week in time.

Just take out the near by screws and bend the main board a tiny bit to slide the old one out and the new in. Works every time and skips 90% of the typical replacement.I bought one of these from the other supplier and it was worse than the one I took out. This one is new and works great. Just remember it’s almost always the weak springs in the chargers contact points that fry these out so just by the off brand $20 MagSafe 2 87watt charger on amazon. It works great on my 2014 MacBook Pro 15”.

For some months I'd notice that my MacBook Pro had a hard time recharging. I had to finagle with the magnetic power connector to get just the right angle to recharge. Then one day none of the finagling worked. I love my 'Book, perfectly fits my needs, and didn't want to give up on it, so I resolved to try troubleshooting the issue.My first guess is that the battery was bad--they do have only so many recharge cycles. When I cracked open the case (note: requires a highly specialized five-point screwdriver--make sure you get one before trying this), I noticed right away that my normally flat, svelte battery pack was all puffy and distorted. Clearly had to go.Replaced that and for a day or two all was good, then the same symptoms of finicky or not-at-all recharging resurfaced. I rechecked my battery connections once again (manually/ visually--I have no fancy electrical circuit testers), and then I took a closer look at my ac/dc charger, it's magnetic connector, and the corresponding connector on the 'Book. Eww. It was like all black and charred looking, both connectors.The charger of course was an easy fix, a simple replacement. But the port on the 'Book took some sleuthing to find the right part. Fortunately, this item came up and I snapped it up. I had to crack open the 'Book case again but by now it was no big deal. The old power jack wasn't hard to remove and the new one easy to put in its place.So an $11 power jack, plus a $20 charger, and I'm back in the game. Sweet.

This worked fine out the box. Installation is very simple and does NOT require you to remove the board. You can just remove the 3 screws in the corner where the port is located, carefully lever the mainboard up, unplug the old one and plug in the new one.You will need the insanely small torx drivers to remove the screws.
