About this item

  • The MEINL Café Cajon is a hardwood snare cajon in wine red finish with a FREE gig bag that is easy to grab and go for your next acoustic gig (cajon dimensions are 17.25" tall x 12" wide x 12" deep)
  • Fixed dual internal snare wires are fitted against the inside of the playing surface to deliver a crisp, snapping snare effect
  • The solid hardwood construction of the body with rear sound port optimizes bass notes, giving them a deep and punchy sound
  • Adjustable top frontplate corners give you the ability to alter the amount of 'slap' to dial in your personal feel when playing. Tighten or loosen the screws located on the top corners of the playing surface to experiment with this effect.
  • Four rubber feet allow the cajon to resonate to its fullest while keeping the instrument stable on any surface
  • Included with this cajon is a FREE Meinl gig bag that is made with heavy duty nylon to ensure safe transportation and storage of your cajon
  • The Café Cajon is ideal for acoustic gigs when a full drum kit cannot be used

The Meinl Percussion Cafe Cajon with FREE gig bag is constructed of dense hardwood for full, resonant bass notes and crisp slap tones. An internal snare system is fitted against the inside of the playing surface to add a sizzle effect, mimicking the sound of a snare drum. The front plate in wine red finish responds well to finger rolls as well as corner slaps and bass hits, giving you optimal dynamic control. When played towards the center, the solid natural finish resonating body accompanies the playing surface by broadening your bass notes to achieve a deep and punchy sound, reacting much like a kick drum. Non-slip rubber feet allow the body to resonate to its fullest while providing stability. This instrument is ideal for acoustic gigs when a full drum kit cannot be used. The FREE Meinl standard Cajon gig bag protects your Cajon and provides hassle free transportation. The heavy duty stitching and carrying grip ensures that your Cajon is protected while on the road to the gig or studio. Store your instrument inside the bag to protect against dirt, dust, and moisture. The portability of the Meinl Cafe Cajon with bag makes it easy for musicians to integrate into their main act, on stage or in the studio.

I had never played Cajon, I am a total beginner. I researched various brands and styles and chose this model based on ratings and online information, and its perfect for my needs. I watched video's online to get started playing. Its very well made, has good tone and designed so well that even though I am overweight it supports me just fine while playing and yet is very light weight to haul around. It comes in a VERY nice case to carry it. I have played with the worship team at church several times and people enjoyed hearing it. The regular Cajon player turns out also has this exact same drum and loves it, it was rec. to her by a drummer friend. This is a great beginner drum but can take you much farther than that as you progress. Playing really is a lot of fun!

I had never used a cajon when I ordered this one, but I'm a believer now. This is a very inexpensive and easy option to add some percussion to your playing. I have seem some use a base drum pedal setup with a cajon, but I just slap it - or have someone else slap it to get the needed percussive sounds. Quality construction, easy to use, no setup, very simple. Sounds good and is priced right. Overall, I am glad to have ordered it and can recommend it to others. Comes with a nice storage/carry bag. Looks nice.

As you can see from the photos, this is not an under sized cajon. I am 6-1, 195 and find it comfortable. The onlyCon I can find with this cajon is the snare is noticeable when striking bass note. Of course you cannot expect a $100 cajon(that comes with a $30 or more case) to have the separation and tonal abilities of a $300 cajon. I did find that I needed to adjust the corners, even though Meinl says ready to play no adjustment needed, to suit my tastes. Now for the Pros: Cajon is well constructed, nice rounded edges, rubber feet on bottom, sounds very good, good bass volume(the snare on bass note is not that noticeable to those listening I am told) and includes a really nice case. I find no reason to not to recommend this cajon. Even if the case were not included it outclasses anything near it's price. Look at the finish and the interior construction (visible through the rear port/sound/mike hole) in the photos I have included and I think you will purchase this cajon. Also the case as I said is really nice with nylon web straps for handles, a HD nylon zipper with metal lockable loop, cordura-like woven nylon outer for durability, thin but dense foam padding, and a less abrasive but tough nylon inner lining.Update: I was asked a question and did not reply in time. The question "are the snares adjustable"; No, there are no adjustments for the snares. There are two snares attached inside the cajon. The only adjustment without modifying the cajon is to slightly loosen the top tree screws on the cabinet front corners which will make the snare sound more apparent. For the money I think you will be hard pressed to find a better sounding cajon. No cajon in this price range has adjustable snares that I know of. I Have had many comments on the sound quality of this cajon and it has held up well through many, many sessions.

The price is fantastic and the sound is great. I purchased this for acoustic gigs, and it has performed perfectly. The sound quality is great, the construction is very solid, and the gig bag is the cherry on top. The red finish looks great too. Meinl is a top notch company, who offers amazing products. My first gig covered the cost of the purchase, and with a D6 microphone laid on the inside of this cajon, you can get a fantastic sound. The sizzle of the snares comes through without a problem too. It's already paid for itself, and you won't get a better sound for the price! Absolutely great!

I previously owned a German Schlagwerk cajon and when I donated it to our church, I found myself looking for an inexpensive instrument to replace it for my home. I tried 3 of the Amazon cajons that were under $130 and had received decent reviews: Meinl Cajon Box Drum with Internal Snares and FREE Bag (BC1NTWR), Sawtooth ST-CJ120B Cajon Birch Wood with Padded Seat Cushion and Carry Bag, and PylePRO PCJD18 String Cajon - Wooden Percussion Box, with Internal Guitar Strings, Full Size. The Meinl has drum snares inside that are not removable (unlike my Schlagwerk) or adjustable. Sadly, this was a deal breaker for me as there was no way to adjust the snare sound. The cajon was well built and had a good carry bag.The Sawtooth was by far the least expensive and also came with a carry bag and a pad for the seat. The pad was ridiculously thin and hard - and provided little if any cushion. The bag was a nice accessory and the cajon was well built. The bass on the cajon was not as deep and the snares were not as crisp as on the Pyle. The faceplate was thicker/heavier and affected the range of sound that I could get out of the instrument. I did turn the screws that adjust the internal guitar strings, but they didn’t make a huge amount of improvement to the richness of the bass & snares. The PylePRO is my personal favorite based on sound. To be honest, the build quality is a bit less than the other cajons (edge above the faceplate could use better sanding) and it didn’t come with a carrying bag, but to me, the sound more closely emulates that of a drumset bass, snare and toms. The image on Amazon has recently changed and it now says “BlueBerry” on the drum face instead of PylePro - I’m glad I bought it when I did :-)
