I started by determining if I could build something similar for less money. It would be close, but ultimately, it is not worth the hassle. This unit is really well built. What I like about it is that I can use it either in-line or at the end of the run. We have a lot of outdoor water outlets, and I'm never quite sure if they are still intact or if they are constantly leaking.At this time of year, I can only test two of our five outlets, and setting it up was easy. I used a small, battery-operated air pump, like a tire inflator, to charge the system with air in the still filled water line and check for leaks. I did discover that one buried line was leaking, so I've isolated that leg until I can fix it.Everything about this unit is well constructed, from the hose connections to the shut-off valve, which features a stainless steel ball valve and, most likely, a Teflon seal. It's a simple, ready-made solution for assessing new or old installations. The benefit of using air over water is that you can easily get pressures above your typical water system pressure.It's well made, and I can easily recommend it.One thing to watch out for is the small O-ring inside the Schrader valve. I almost lost mine, so be careful when you first open the cap. Alternatively, you can tighten it down to seat the O-ring in place before removing it.

This water pressure gauge has been helpful to use for testing my home's water pressure and it works well. The threads are accurately sized at 3/4 inch and they fit on a standard hose bib which is handy so I don't need to add any special adapters. The gauge is large, easy to see and the dial moves smoothly and appears to be accurate.The ball valve is easy to turn and I haven't noticed any leaks after leaving this connected to my laundry room faucet overnight. I've always known I had high water pressure and according to this gauge, my water pressure is 100psi. Overall this is a decent water pressure gauge and it's made of solid brass and feels durable although something to note is that the gauge isn't glycerin filled.
