previous reviews made me curious to try these Monel strings. It was time to restring my 30 years old Seagull Cedar top. These strings totally improved the sound of one of my best sounding guitar: a little bit brighter with more definitions, a little louder but sooo much better played softer.The Monel are the same color as electric guitar strings, with a bit more rough feeling on the finger - not unpleasant. I will try them on my old spruce top and on one of my Mahogany top.

My all-mahogany acoustic guitar was a little lacking in brightness with the usual 80/20 and phosphor-bronze strings. These Monel strings really opened up the top end. They won't sound great on every guitar, as you have to match the strings to your guitar, style of play, and preferences, but these were just what I needed for mine. If you feel you could use a little more brightness in the treble, I recommend trying a set.

I find these strings to make my guitar sound more balanced and the tone suits me more....for an acoustic sound I prefer from a guitar. I use these on everything from a 1957 Gibson archtop, to vintage Takamine, and newer dreadnaughts. If I work on a guitar for a friend, I put these strings on. The most obvious difference was when I put them on a relatively cheap Dean Acoustic solid Spruce top cutaway for my nephew. Night and day difference in tone on that guitar, but I also did a setup and cut bridge slots for a better angle.

I have been playing these retro Monel strings for a couple years now, and I love them. As I understand it, Monel strings were common in the 1930s-1950s. I play an 00-17 Martin, and I play Martin 11s, which are hard to find with other manufacturers.. I finger pick everything, Blind Blake to Hot Tuna, and it just has that sound I'm going for. Maybe if I had a Stella I'd be even happier, but this is close enough.
