Takes a bit of getting used to (never used a planer before) but once you get familiar with it, it is amazing. Can't speak to other brands but it is definitely worth the money if you want to take your wood working to the next level - it produces such a nice, even finish to the wood. Wish I had bought earlier.

After 25 years as a professional cabinet maker and four other thickness planers I bought this Makita. I wished I had known before of the accuracy and smoothness of cut that the Makita 2012NB provides. Far and away the best planer I have ever used.

Nice planer. Runs much smoother and less noise than others I have I owned or used. If you are looking quality then Makita seems to be a good choice.

A good planer except for the snipe. Actually preferred the older version as it was easier to rig up a dust extraction port to it. As far as portables go it seems to be more than adequate.

Best tool purchase I've made. I had to go thru 400 feet of rough stock and previously used an electric 3" hand planner and then had to sand to finish. The boards that came out of the Makita were good to go and I did the job in no time at all.

Sturdy unit... but not as powerful as i wanted.....Not a problem for material like 1x3 or smaller..... but as soon as you get close to 2x6 this machine really struggles....I got it to plane down 3x10 dry cedar that i have to male a table and i have to push with all my might and 9bly drop the blades 1/16 of an inch each time....Seems how some of my 3x10s im wanting to do a teue plane down about 3/8s, its taking ALOT of passes.Ive resorted to using my cordless makita handheld planer and then using this 12 inch planer for the last couple passes....Cedar is even a soft wood....I tried sending a 1x6 of oak through it and the automatic feed didnt work,It actually raaaarly works ( out of the box )I think this planner is more for the odd use here and there or for extreeeeeemly dry and small dimensions. If your looking for something you can send a whole bunch of 2x4s through to turn into 1x3 trues, this is NOT the tool.Im a fulltime carpenter and a furniture maker as a hobbie and have all makita cordless tools and then a 10 inch table saw, 12inch slide dual compound , and this planner as corded tools. Some of makitas tool are freaking amazing, but unfortunately, this 12 inch planner was a FAIL !this is FAR FROM a powerful planner and the automatic feed is child like.Sorry makita. You do well most of the time...but not this time.

Makita doesn't need and introduction. If you need a planer then go for it.

wer billig kauft, kauft 2x. Meine absolute Kaufempfehlung
