This was the second seal that I installed in my pickup truck. The first one of these literally started leaking oil one week after I installed it. I have ALWAYS installed these with a light coating of sealer on the outer ring. When I pulled out the transmission, imagine my surprise when I saw the seal sitting at an angle on the block. After reading the instructions, I found that this is a silicone seal and is supposed to be installed in a very clean opening dry with no sealer. I followed the instructions and the rear of the engine is bone dry and has been for well over a month. I’m sure glad that I have a rack in my shop.
