I was kinda dubious of this item when I first bought my Lansky stuff, but I figured to buy everything I thought I might need at once, rather than go back later for something that I might realize I needed five minutes after I opened the box. I have to say though that this handy little unit really does make using the basic kit a lot easier. Having it held off the desk or table I'm using just works better for me, orthographically-speaking. I don't use it every time, but overall; I really like it.

This unit makes the Lansky sharpener very easy to use. It would be quite awkward without it.Lansky really should include it with their sharpening system instead of it being an optional component.

This clamp really helps when using the lansky sharpening system. Without it, I found it difficult to hold and sharpen my knives - it took a long time. This clamp is easy to use and it does help stabilize your knife so you can focus on sharpening. You still have to hold it or it can wobble off. I like the lansky system and products but they don't seem to be very user friendly. It's almost as it they are daring you to use their products and not hurt yourself in the process. So the clamp helps, but because you still have to hold the knife in the clamp thing you have to find a place for your hand that doesn't get in the way of the guide rod going back and forth. It can be done, but it does take some playing around to find just the right hold. And I'm on 20 degrees. If I went to 17 I have no idea if I could get that to work. Anyway, if you have the system and want to keep using it, get this clamp! It helps, it really does...
