A while back i stumbled on a guitarist by the name of Gino Matteo, and through him I discovered the late Michael Burks. This guy was phenomenal, his guitar playing gets you right in the soul, his voice goes from gospel to soul, and the rhythms make you just move. Just check this guy out! Oh, and Gino, and Sugarray Rayford while you're at it!

Michael Burks is unique. I thought that another master of the guitar would not come along for some time or perhaps not in my lifetime. But suddenly I read about him in the newspapers that many have heard him and thought he was outstanding. I also read the sad news that he recently passed away this year. So I gave his Iron Man a listen and became an instant fan. Needless to say I searched in youtube to find a few live performances that were fourtunately filmed and I agree 100% that Michael Burks is outstanding. Mr. Burks is one of my favorite guitar players.Mr. Burks is a blues player with excellent vocals. He mostly sings and channels his emotional response to the lyrics through guitar licks. Licks that reflect Allman Brothers, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, and B.B. King. He has a tinge of Rock and Southern Rock in his playing. He makes it looks simple but no one can play like him.Mr. Burks has left us a short catalog of adventurous music for us to enjoy and generations to come.
