A beautiful guitar with wonderful sound…came with broken string but got it fixed. Top of the headstock to the fret board on the joints were rough

The problem with these guitars, and this includes to a lesser extent monoprice, Westcreek, alljita, boya & Ziqi, is they all have become so expensive. A US customer pays $200 for this guitar and we Canadians are expected to pay $550 or more? What gives?

This guitar is a high-quality instrument. This one had the cherry red clear coat finish, and the wood grain shows through. It plays well and sounds great when amplified. But it is a semi-hollow body and can be played without a practice amp. A great buy for the price.

Playable out of the box, astonishing at this price point. The factory strings are garbage and old (fingers showed black/rust after 10 minutes) and the high E snapped. Changed them out and just wow! For context I'm a long time player, working musician. Wanted to wait a week before reviewing and made it 2 days and it will be featured in tonight's gig, this thing is awesome! The photos understate how nice it looks. The headstock is beautiful - the custom metal truss rod cover, bound headstock (!!) and the logo is pearlescent. Binding on neck, double bound body and F holes is all well done. No fret work / playability issues at all - didn't touch intonation or truss rod and it plays smooth. The neck is super comfortable. The pickups are typical cheap humbuckers, have a nice creamy sqwank, not noisy. Volume and tone controls are intuitive, feel and sound right. I so don't care if the finish is photo flame (whatever that means) or real flame, it looks amazing and at this price point complaints about that feel dumb. I saw a bunch of reviews about tuners, I don't believe them. I think the tuners are fine and hold tune no problem. I think people aren't used to playing guitars with trapeze tailpieces and stretching strings to burn them in. I'll update after some time but I don't foresee any complaints, this is way worth it.Edit: 6 months in this thing is still top notch, a crazy good value. Survived many gigs and is featured on latest album. I’m looking at other Grote models, bang for the buck is outstanding.

OK - here's my unbiased findings about this guitar. It arrived well packaged - strong cardboard box with the guitar inside its included gig bag and taped up well. Immediately after opening I found the guitar inside the gig bag with yet another layer of wrap around the guitar. It looked great right out of the box. Tuned down a bit for safe transport. After tuning it to pitch it played well - no buzz on the frets up and down the neck and seemed to be pretty well intonated (may need some tweaking but close). The action was a tad higher than I usually like but that's pretty standard for production guitars right out of the box and easily tweaked. The nut on mine was a real bone nut - 100% sure. The pickups and all electronics worked with no issues. I would say the pickups are OK and work well. No crackling on the pots. The finish is good - and it is a "photo - finish" not a real flame maple laminate top. But it still looks nice from a distance (I got the purple one). I played it for a few hours and had to retune once. I would agree that you will want to replace the strings asap. That's not unusual for almost any guitar out of the box. The only cons I found was the pickguard clashes with the color but that's just a personal observation. Also, I did not get the cable, truss rod wrench and picks with mine but will try contacting the company to see if they will send them to me. The gig bag is OK and good enough for taking to practice but I will probably get a hard case for it for better protection. This guitar is pretty good right out of the box and a good choice for a beginner, modder or more experienced musician who just wants something inexpensive to leave laying around to pick up and plunk on.

Beautiful guitar, nice flame top! This Grote sounds almost as good as my ES 335 at 1/12 of the price. I will replace the pickups due to them being SO microphonic, and the plastic nut. That is about all it needs to SOUND like my 335, and I won't have to take off my belt and/or put a pillow between me and the guitar to play. The tuners seem to be more than adequate. The neck was straight. The intonation was very close out of the box. Before playing it, I replaced the strings. It's amazing how much guitar you can get from Grote at this price point! Overnight delivery from Amazon was greatly appreciated as well.
