I absolutely adore this little brass crab, who's happy to hold much more than pens -- as long as it isn't too large or unbalanced. The crab itself is pretty small, I love the size but it's barely large enough to hold a pen for example. It's PERFECT for holding a smoke, offering it up to me at the end of a long day. That's how mine has been employed, and I'm very happy to welcome this little guy into my environment. Note, if you do use it to hold a pen or pencil, it doesn't hold things perfectly level. The claws are not exactly the same height, so your pen will tilt slightly. It looks great, I'm impressed with the detail on the legs and undersize especially, and it's a little bit heavy like a paperweight. Everyone who's noticed it so far has fallen in love with it. Super pleased.

I like to keep one opened pen on my desk as well as those closed ones in larger holder. This is super cute and looks good, even has detail on the bottom. My partner ordered a cat one from a different company that absolutely doesn't work to hold a pen. Stick with this one.
