Just received today. Bits are in *tight* collars and razor-sharp, so use a tool to pr them out the first time lest you slice a finger open. Really appreciate finding these specialty sizes in 1/2" shank. They're available for less with 8mm shanks, but I suspect most of us in North America still use routers with Imperial collets (and the price difference between 8mm and 1/2" isn't enough to buy a metric router).

so there must be more than 1 size of undersize plywood. I had to make the first pass, then adjust the fence to take off another 34 thou or so. Yes it's do-able, but it requires 2 times the passes with a large project it's a pain. So I wonder if there should be 2 sizes of "undersize" plywood bits. They do cut smoothly with no burn and no vibration. Arrived with damaged box, no biggie that's a shipping faux pas

These undersized plywood bits performed as expected. They certainly speed up dadoes for plywood and created a nice tight fit.

As others have stated, the bits themselves seem OK quality; however they are so tightly enclosed in the rubber holders you will either slice your fingers removing them or damage the flutes using pliers to get them out. The design of the box prevents you from removing them safely. After drawing blood and almost chipping the flutes, I had to disassemble the box (two brass screws on side), remove the wooden holder, and pry the rubber inserts out. You then must cut the middle (not outer) rubber ring to free it from its outside sleeve. You then need to use wire cutters or a small pair of scissors to remove about 1/8" from the diameter of inner ring. Then reassemble the entire box, and the bits will still stay in place but will come out w/o injuring yourself. What a horrible safety hazard. Better yet, but another brand.

these are decent bits at this price point.I have seen a lot of ridiculous packaging in my long work life, but this Freud bit set brakes all bad packaging records. It is virtually impossible to remove the bits out of their rubber sockets without resorting to nuclear measures.I send the first set back as it appeared somebody tried to remove one of the bits with a tool and chipped the carbide I opted for a replacement as I needed the bits urgently, (my existing set disappeared from my toolbox on jobsite) . I tried everything to remove these bits out of their extremely tight rubber/ plastic sockets, to no avail, I ended up cutting the rubber sockets out with a long bladed exacto knife after removing the insert with the bits off the otherwise nicely made wooden box. Its mind boggling that apparently nobody in charge at Freud ever tried to remove the bits themselves as it seems inconceivable to me that they would ship the router bits this way.I use sockets as supplied by LeeValley for dozen's of my other bits with great success, they fit snugly and hold the bits securely, but I have never seen anything like this. So my rating is not for the quality of the bits but for the ignorance of Freud management to supply a product which is impossibe to remove from the packaging. There is great danger to cut yourself badly as one has to pull on the bits sharp carbide cutters. So be extremely careful.

It helps immensely to cut the dados precisely to the actual plywood thickness for a snug fitting. Besides its Freud's and the price is right and fast shipping.

I expected and have Freud quality. Not in the pictured box but the plastic one is okay.

Great bits. I used them for making plywood cabinets and they made nice slots to fit panels together really well. The one complaint, and I saw this in other posts, is the case the bits come in. The complaints about them being hard to remove is understated. The 3/4” bit was hard to get out and I worried about slicing my finger. But the 1/4” bit was much worse, resulting in destroying the case as shown in the pic. I decided my fingers and the bits were worth more than the case (that was really nice). Be prepared to find other storage.

I just cut down some plywood for cabinet panels. It was 1/4" and my regular 1/4" router bit was giving me plenty of slop. I bought this set and the undersized 1/4" bit gave the panel a perfect fit. One tip, though... The fit is so tight that you might have a hard time sliding the panel in. I sanded off the edges just a bit but not too far into the panel that it would show beyond the rabbet. Panels now slide in but show very snug.

All of the my heavy duty router bits are Freud brand because I know they are the highest quality, the sharpest and durable. This set was no exception. They cut a perfect groove for today's plywood sizes - I have used the bits for 3/4, 1/2" and 3/8" plywood and they perform perfectly with minimal tear-out. I love the box, it protects the bits and stacks in my router bit drawer perfectly. Definitely recommend
