This is just what I needed to play my old shows to my (new to me) 70s floor model TV. My DVD/VCR combo connects to it, as well as an external hard drive so I can play files through USB.

Arrived quickly. It does work. Easy to set up. But you get what you pay for. Picture is grainy at times. Never has program info and what up with the low sound. Poor sound quality

No instructions are included so prepare to spend some time getting it to work. Plug it into your HDMI, then plug the antenna into the box. You'll turn on the box and do a scan. If you get no channels, you probably didn't plug the antenna into the box. It reads directly from the antenna, not the TV so no antenna means no channels. Most important; make sure you have a good antenna! Not all antennas are created equal, and if you get a cheap one, you won't get that many channels and this will be a waste of time and energy. The farther away from the city you are, the more long range antenna you will need. It won't cost that much more, and it will be worth it since it's an initial investment. This box improves the antenna's signal and I've noticed I get more channels. I use the Mediasonic Homeworx HW110AN Super Thin Indoor Antenna with this box.NOTE: Setting up is probably the hardest part, moving forward, if you can read, you can pretty much figure the rest out. Here are a few helpful pointers:PVR - this is the DVR function and it can pause live television. I use a 16 GB memory stick which is about 6 hours. If you watch your shows pretty quickly then it's fine. If you like to record movies or know you won't get around to watching your hows, then get a higher GB stick. To record, you have to press EPG (program guide), and find the show, hit OK, and choose the record option. From there there are arrows to select daily/weekly/and so on. To play it back, you press USB. It won't list the show, just the channel. When you select a show, it will have a preview, and you can press HOLD to push it to full screen.EPG - The program guide. Has a day's worth of programming listed. I jump on in the morning if there is an evening show I want to record. Sometimes, I jump on when I get home from work.USB - For the PVR (aka DVR) playback. Pretty easy to use.Happy viewing

Total fiasco.

I have been a cable subscriber for far to many years. The bill continued to rise. I recently noticed a charge on my bill that was for a box that I had turned in on my up-grade. I called and ask about it and was told that they would give me a ninety day credit for that and sorry about that. Problem with that is that the billing time was > two years. That pretty much did it for me. I started researching alternative TV viewing options.First I bought an HDTV as seen on TV Antenna. It picks up 32 channels. We use about eight. Cost was $10 bucks. We have a smart TV. Most TVs have built in digital tuners. All new ones have them. When you use the antenna ensure that none of the other wires are touching antenna wire. I had this issue and nearly gave up.The only question left "How are we going to record our favorite shows?" This is why I bought and love this Ematic TV Converter. I found mine on line for $30. I had to go and buy a USB stick for storing the recording on. The research said the ratio is about one gig/hr. Now that I've used it, I get about 1'2 g/hr. My 64 gig USB cost $20. I am going to buy another flash drive because today I removed the USB from the converter box and played it back through the multi-media on the TV. I can record on one flash drive while viewing the other. That's why I want two flash drives. My bill for the bundle deal was $160/month. Now I have the same high speed internet and we kept the phone. Now we pay $70/month. That will go down another $10 as soon as I buy the modem from Fryes. Most modems are around $100. If it has a phone jack like ours add another $100. I do not own the one I have now. At ten bucks/month I have bought three of them and working on my forth. The down side of this is that it is not very intuitive. The remote is a 5 on a scale of 1-10 at best. The instructions are somewhat lacking and the quality of the printed instructions has much to be desired. I found a video on-line that was somewhat helpful. Mostly it was trial and error and muddling through it. Don't forget to format the flash drive before you get started. This is done right here on the box.: Menu button, USB, PVR configure. It may ask if you want a software update. I said yes and then did not need one.Someone was very kind in sharing their knowledge with me and all he ask is that I respond in kind. I hope this helps.
