I thought this part was the problem with my dewalt impact, after taking it apart and doing further research I learned that it's the spring that holds the bearing in place.If you have that problem where the bit just falls out, there's no need to take the drill apart. Just remove the round nob that secures the bit in place and replace the spring. If it's not broken, bend it as you see fit like I did. Apparently this spring is an issue with the newer xr models, shame on you dewalt
