This is an excellent upgrade from plastic mounts, holds fast on all my vehicles even offroad. Highly recommended.

This mount is very solid and well built with smooth casting of the plate. The aluminum does not appear to be cheap quality but fully solid without bubbles or casting defects. The dimensions and feel of the ball is spot on and enough grip and strength for the applications that will be attached to it.There's a base screw that I could not undo which likely means they used thread lock which is good. I pushed, pulled and tried torquing the ball fairly hard and couldn't move or break anything as the throat is also aluminum with likely the screw going through it to some degree.Compared to a ram-mount (a old one) these actually look better as the other plate has casting defects.For my purpose, I have an ICP controller for my flight sim with a ball mount joint. Attaching this to the desk clamp (with a little hole resize/drill) the controller is very solid and does not wiggle. When drilling I did not observe any material problems and was solid through.

These are very well-made one-inch ball mounts, compatible with any RAM size B (1" diameter) double-socket arm or other receptacle. The aluminum alloy base (much stronger than plastic alternatives) is configured in the AMPS industry-standard mounting-screw pattern, with three additional holes. It has a durable anodized black finish. The ball is over-molded with wear-resistant compressible thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU).The RAM (Round-A-Mount) system (and its imitators, such as BRCOVAN) is an incredibly flexible and versatile means of mounting virtually anything (cell phones, cameras, radios, laptops) to a very wide range of surfaces (dashboards, handlebars, railings, cockpits). Typically, these ball mount bases would connect to an extension arm (which come in various lengths, and can be multi-sectioned), in turn connected to a device-specific mounting bracket.

I've used this, and another similar version (by the same manufacturer) with Ram type mounts very successfully. The build quality is great, and if you didn't tell me it wasn't an expensive brand name mount, at twice the price, I'd have no idea. I would definitely recommend these ball mounts to anyone looking.
